  • There have been several updates for ubuntu 14.04 : I want to give some details since for me, your comment is somewhat misleading. Just downloading 14.04.3 now to try that first though. Looks a bit complicated but maybe I will give this another go. I think I've been given the answer in post7 ( ) by using "nomodeset".

You listed 3 things that I would need to update for it to work smoothly, but I didn't even get past the graphical installer when I tried ages ago. I'm still happily using Win7Ultimate (with Windows Media Centre), but would quite like to dual-boot with 14.04LTS if possible.

    >Yes Ubuntu 14.04 can now work provided you update the kernel and graphic stack :ĭoes 14.04.3 have the 3.19 kernel already included? I don't know very much about Linux/Ubuntu, only that I couldn't get 14.04 LTS and 14.10 to install on my NUC (but 15.04 was ok)

Will this be any different from 14.04.2 in regards to the errors I was getting in March? 3 version - Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS (Trusty Tahr) I noticed on Ubuntu's website they have released. The graphics card in the NUC5i5RYH is an Intel HD 6000 (not a 5500) so it might be a different result? I haven't tried Windows yet but I assume W7 won't have these kind of graphics problems?Īre these problems with Ubuntu occurring because of the HD Graphics 6000 card?

I haven't tried installing any drivers or updating the BIOS yet (I think the NUC is running the latest version out of the box? 0137?)Īlso, with Ubuntu 15.04 when trying to play a video using VLC I get green streaks/interference on the window (but the video plays ok using the built-in Video player). Hard drive: 160Gb SSD - Intel SSDSA2M160G2C 3Gb/s SATA Processor: Intel Core i5-5250U CPU 1.60Ghz RAM: 16GB CT2C8G3S160BMCEU (Crucial 8GB x2) I have managed to get the Ubuntu 15.04 beta to install from a USB stick and this seems to fix whatever problem is occurring but I'd prefer to be running 14.04/14.10. I tried instead running Ubuntu from a live CD and on the desktop the onscreen UI (like the maximise and close buttons) are all similarly messed up/glitchy. This meant I wasn't able to complete the install as I didn't know where to click to proceed. I've tried to install 14.04 LTS and 14.10 from a USB stick I made, but with both of these during the installation process all the onscreen UI (like the 'next', 'continue', 'ok' buttons) are blacked out and the window where the installation dialogue should be is just a black empty window. I'm new to Ubuntu but wanted to try it on my Intel NUC NUC5i5RYH.
